Rejuvenate Your Eyelids with Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery

Do you suffer from sagging, droopy eyelids? Have you noticed visual impairments that prevent you from seeing objects in your line of sight? If so, eyelid surgery at Ver Halen Aesthetics and Plastic Surgery in Southlake, TX may be the solution to your problems.

Eyelid surgery removes excess fat and skin from the eyelids to rejuvenate the eye area. Patients who undergo eyelid surgery remark on how much younger and energetic they appear. As a bonus, blepharoplasty can improve your ability to see.

What Is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that tightens and lifts the skin of the eyelids. Excess fat that has formed in the eyelid area may also be removed, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Patients can choose between upper or lower eyelid surgery or having both lids treated. Upper eyelid surgery is best for raising droopy eyelids, while lower eyelid surgery eliminates excess fat and eye bags.

Combining both surgeries is best for individuals seeking to obtain a more open look to their eyes. Sometimes, patients are born with narrow eyelids and want to widen them. Blepharoplasty can do that.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

The best candidates for blepharoplasty have concerns about their eyelids. They may experience sagging eyelid skin or have excess puffiness that makes them appear tired. Both upper and lower eyelid surgery can correct these issues.

However, as with any cosmetic surgery, we must review your medical history to determine whether you’re a good fit for the procedure. If you’re interested in undergoing blepharoplasty, you’ll first come to our office for a consultation.

During the consultation, we’ll figure out if there are any factors preventing you from having the surgery. You can ask us any questions you have about the procedure. We want to ensure that you’re as comfortable as possible with it before scheduling your treatment.

How Does a Blepharoplasty Procedure Work?

Your procedure will depend on the type of eyelid surgery we perform.

An upper eyelid surgery begins with us marking the areas of the eyelid we will treat. We’ll administer local anesthesia to numb the area. Once you’re numb, we’ll make an incision along your upper eyelid’s crease and remove the excess skin.

Sometimes, we may remove muscle tissue if it has become overly extended. Finally, we’ll suture the eyelid back together.

Lower eyelid surgery also begins with anesthesia. Depending on your needs, we will use local or general anesthesia to perform the treatment. Rather than making the incision along the eyelid’s crease, we make them below the lash line or behind the eyelid.

Next, we remove all excess fat and skin to tighten the appearance of the undereye area. If muscles have loosened, we’ll apply sutures to constrict them, reducing the likelihood of future sagginess underneath the eyes. We’ll close the incisions with stitches when we’ve finished the process.

If you choose to have a full blepharoplasty combining both upper and lower eyelids, we’ll combine the procedures, but the steps remain the same.

Both upper and lower eyelid surgery takes approximately one hour to perform. If you combine both procedures, you can expect your surgery to last up to two hours. Blepharoplasty is an outpatient surgery, so you’ll be able to return home for recovery.

What Is the Recovery Period for Eyelid Surgery?

Most patients require up to two weeks to recover from their eyelid surgery. Sometimes, patients return to work after just a week of downtime. However, the eyelids will need time to recover from the procedure fully. Most patients see the full results from eyelid surgery after several months.

The results from eyelid surgery last from 10 to 15 years. Blepharoplasty does not stop the natural aging process. Patients may need additional treatment if they experience droopy and sagging eyelids in the future.

What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?

There are several benefits to eyelid surgery, including:

Appearing Less Tired

Saggy, puffy eyelids often cause people to appear tired. With blepharoplasty, patients can correct this issue and look more alert. They can also reduce under-eye puffiness, which can make a person look older than they are.

More Youthful Appearance

Sagging eyelids tend to age a person. Oftentimes, saggy eyelids are hereditary. While we can’t stop eyelid sagginess from developing, we can correct it. Blepharoplasty can restore your eyelids’ natural appearance and reduce excess skin in the area.

Improved Vision

Many people don’t realize that drooping eyelids impair their vision until after a blepharoplasty procedure. Patients may find their field of vision significantly improves through eyelid surgery.

Fully Customized Procedure

Eyelid surgery is not a one-size-fits-all treatment. Instead, we customize your surgery according to the level of sagging you have and whether your eyelid muscles are affected. Patients enjoy results that match their objectives for the procedure.

Long-Term Results

Eyelid surgery is a long-lasting procedure. Most patients don’t need a follow-up surgery for 10 to 15 years. Thus, you can enjoy the benefits of blepharoplasty for a decade or longer. In some cases, patients never need another eyelid surgery.

Cosmetic Benefits

If you regularly use makeup, you may find your routine limited by sagging eyelids. Blepharoplasty removes the excess skin in the upper eyelids, allowing patients to apply eyeshadow and eyeliner in their intended fashion. You won’t have to worry about your eyelids sagging too much, distracting from your cosmetic artistry.
