XEOMIN

XEOMIN is an injectable cosmetic treatment that can rejuvenate your appearance by making lines and wrinkles fade and disappear.

How XEOMIN Works to Smooth Lines and Wrinkles

XEOMIN contains the active ingredient botulinum toxin, the same active ingredient in BOTOX®. Botulinum toxin has the ability to paralyze muscles and prevent them from contracting. This property means XEOMIN can effectively treat the kinds of lines and wrinkles that form over time as a result of making certain facial expressions. Frowning, for instance, involves the use of specific forehead muscles. Over time, with repeated movement of these muscles, frown lines (glabellar lines) form between the eyebrows. This happens because the muscle contractions pull at the skin overlying the muscle. Eventually, the skin stays wrinkled even when the muscles aren’t contracted. When XEOMIN® is injected into those muscles, it prevents them from contracting. This smooths out the muscles and the overlying skin too. Facial lines and wrinkles ease and can even disappear completely. Learn how XEOMIN is different than BOTOX here: /blog/xeomin-vs-botox/

What Can XEOMIN Do for You?

XEOMIN® is a temporary treatment for glabellar lines that develop between the eyebrows. When XEOMIN is injected in minute amounts into the muscles between and above the eyebrows, lines are softened and become less noticeable. In some people, they even disappear completely! XEOMIN smooths out forehead lines without affecting other parts of your face, so you leave a session looking natural—no “frozen face” appearance.

Visible Difference in 3 to 4 Days

Most people who have XEOMIN start to see positive changes in less than a week. For some people, it happens in as few as three or four days. However, it can take up to 30 days to see the maximum effect of the treatment.

Long-Lasting Results

XEOMIN is clinically proven, with effects lasting around three months. This can vary from person to person. For some people, the effects of XEOMIN last longer, while for some it may be shorter.

Slows Down the Rate at Which New Facial Lines and Wrinkles Form

XEOMIN treatments have an extra benefit that many people don’t expect. Because it paralyzes the facial muscles it treats, it prevents the contractions that cause frown lines. This means it doesn’t just smooth out existing lines; it also stops them from getting worse. If you start XEOMIN treatment before glabellar lines appear, you may be able to prevent or delay their formation.

How Much XEOMIN Do You Need?

Most people receive around 20 units of XEOMIN for glabellar lines. The amount you need varies depending on how severe your frown lines are and the thickness of your skin in that area. Men often need a little more XEOMIN than women because their skin tends to be thicker. Unit-for-unit, XEOMIN is comparable to BOTOX. If you’ve previously used BOTOX and are switching to XEOMIN, you’ll probably need a similar number of units of XEOMIN. It may not be exactly the same, due to differences in the formulations of each treatment.

What Is XEOMIN Treatment Like?

Your cosmetic procedure will typically involve having five injections. The injection sites are between and above the eyebrows. When you have your consultation, your cosmetic practitioner will determine where to inject to get the best results. It usually takes around 10 to 20 minutes to have a full series of XEOMIN injections. The consultation and injections together will take less than an hour, so you can fit this treatment in during your lunch break, on your way home from work, or whenever you have an hour to spare!

XEOMIN Recovery

After you have XEOMIN injections, there’s no downtime, so you can get back to your regular routine right away. The only change you might need to make is to avoid exercise and strenuous activity for the first 24 hours. This is important because it helps prevent the solution from spreading from the injection sites. Keep this in mind when planning out your day. For instance, if you usually run or bike to work, make other arrangements on a day when you have a XEOMIN treatment planned during lunch or on your way home. Most people have mild short-term side effects when they have a XEOMIN treatment. Common XEOMIN side effects include:

  • Irritation or pain at injection sites
  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Tiredness
  • Neck pain
  • Eyelid swelling or drooping

Note: The visible side effects of XEOMIN can last a few days. If you’re having treatment in advance of a special event, keep this in mind when you schedule your appointment. Allow at least a week or two of recovery time after the treatment to give time for the side effects to subside.

Risks and Complications of XEOMIN

There are some potentially serious side effects of XEOMIN, but these are very rare:

  • Double vision or blurred vision
  • Trouble breathing, speaking, or swallowing
  • Muscle weakness and/or loss of strength in other parts of the body
  • Loss of bladder control

These side effects can develop within hours or weeks of treatment if XEOMIN® spreads to other parts of the body. They can be serious, and it’s important to talk to your doctor or get emergency medical help right away if you have eye or vision problems, muscle weakness, or difficulty breathing or swallowing. Before getting XEOMIN®, tell your cosmetic practitioner if you’re taking any medications and if you have any medical conditions, especially those that affect nerve or muscle control. These include:

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Lambert-Eaton syndrome

Also let them know if you’ve ever had injectable treatments before or if you’ve had facial surgery. These things may affect the results of your XEOMIN® treatment. Avoid injectable treatments such as XEOMIN® if you’re pregnant or nursing. The effects of the injectables on unborn or nursing babies is not known at this time.

Allergy Risks

Like BOTOX, XEOMIN contains a protein called human albumin. If you have an allergy to this protein, XEOMIN treatment may trigger an allergic reaction. Allergy symptoms can include:

  • Itching, redness, rash, or swelling at injection sites
  • Wheezing
  • Dizziness
  • Feeling faint
  • Difficulty breathing

If you feel faint or dizzy, or have wheezing or breathing trouble after XEOMIN® injections, see your doctor or get medical treatment right away.
